In 2010, Robert Bender,  was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and passed away several months later.

About Rob

If you didn't know Rob, then he was simply one of the most humble and accomplished mountain bikers around.  He loved long, hard rides and on any given weekend he could win any given pro-level XC, DH or endurance race.  Beyond this, he was simply one of the nicest guys around and a strong supporter of the local mountain biking community. 

Rob devoted his life to mountain biking.  When he wasn't riding, he was either working on bikes (mostly other people's) or he was out in the hills building trails.

Rob is well known for "the jumps" he built in Loma Linda at Hulda Crooks Park, most of which none of us will ever attempt.  This area is now designated mountain biking and recreation area.

Rob also introduced the sport to many up and coming riders (including young kids) and helped them learn the art of riding.

Rob wanted nothing more than to share his own love for cycling with the world.
 

Bike for Bender Foundation

In his memory, we created the "Bike For Bender" foundation. 

The goal of the foundation is to support fellow fallen riders, help children get access to bikes, maintain our local trails, and support future cancer research.

Please join us in supporting this cause. 

If you don't know Rob, when he wasn't out riding or racing he was usually out building a jump, fixing someone's bike, or buying someone a beer.

Not only was he one of the nicest guys around, he was also one of the most talented XC and DH riders in the area.

Early in 2010, Rob was diagnosed with extragonadal germ cell cancer that developed primarily in his lungs.

He underwent extensive treatment for many months but lost his fight to cancer in November.
